Springs Monitoring

monitoring1_mediumSprings Data

The Northwest Florida Water Management District maintains data on springs and spring flows for water resource protection and long-term water supply planning. Water level, quality, and discharge data obtained from monitoring networks increase scientists’ understanding of the hydrogeologic, climatic and human factors that affect water resources.

History on Sampling

How often monitoring is conducted is unique to each spring and is contingent on many factors. In some cases, larger springs on public property may be sampled every few months, while smaller springs on public or private property are not regularly monitored. Historical spring flow data has been collected by the U.S. Geological Survey since 1929 and by the water management district since the mid 1990’s.
