Cypress Spring Shoreline Restoration and Protection Project
Cypress Spring is a popular recreation spot for visitors who want to enjoy one of northwest Florida’s most beautiful springs. Because of its popularity, the shoreline around Cypress Spring has seen significant erosion from the thousands of visitors who frequent the spring.
The Northwest Florida Water Management District is taking steps to restore and protect the shoreline so Cypress Spring can continue to be enjoyed for years to come. The goal of this restoration project is to provide access for visitors to the spring while adding protective measures to prevent the erosion of the shoreline.
As part of this project, contractors for the Northwest Florida Water Management District will:
- Stabilize the shoreline surrounding the spring to help lessen the impacts of erosion
- Replace the existing boardwalk which had fallen into disrepair with an ADA-compliant walkway from the spring area to the restrooms
- Install landing mats for paddlecraft to protect the shoreline
- Replace dead, diseased, and distressed trees by replanting with native species at a factor of 2-to-1 (two new trees planted for every tree removed)
- Install a new section of boardwalk to protect the shoreline
- Construct decks with seating and access to the spring – again, to help protect the shoreline
