Permitting Process
How do you obtain a permit?
A completed Surface Water Management Permit Application and application fee is required. An engineer certification, drawings, and proof of agricultural use for the property will need to be included in the submittal.
What happens after a permit is issued?
Pre-Construction
Once the permit is issued, it is valid for five years. At least two weeks before construction begins, a pre-construction meeting between the permittee, contractor, and a District representative is required in order to review the permit requirements and prevent problems during construction. Once construction begins, the work should be completed within 180 days. During the construction phase, a District representative may inspect the work a number of times.
Post Construction
When the work has been completed, a design professional will need to complete and submit a completed As-Built Certification and Completion Report. The District will then review the information and send a letter to the permittee notifying them that the Operation and Maintenance permit is in effect. This permit does not expire and includes recommended inspection and maintenance schedules.
