Overview

The District acquired more than 500 acres of land within Elinor-Klapp Phipps Park in 1992. The Park is managed cooperatively by the NWFWMD with the City of Tallahassee, offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities while serving an important role in protecting the water and natural resources of the area.

Environmental Importance

This property was acquired to protect Lake Jackson, which is an Aquatic Preserve, outstanding Florida waterbody, and a SWIM priority watershed. Throughout the year, visitors to the park may notice other land management activities as the District continues to work to restore natural habitat along the lakeshore and throughout the Park by using land management tools such as prescribed burns, pine timber thinning harvests, and planting native trees and grasses.
